Eight fighters rated by THE RING were in action this past weekend, activity that would normally result in at least some changes in the ratings.
Not this week. All eight were matched against unrated opponents and none lost.
Here?s a look at the thought process:
HEAVYWEIGHT
No. 7 Alexander Dimitrenko easily outpointed Michael Sprott on Saturday in Germany but Sprott is ordinary at best. Thus, we couldn?t justify having Dimitrenko leap frog No. 6 Robert Helenius or anyone above him.
No. 8 Denis Boytsov stopped Matt Greer in six rounds on the same card. Same situation as Dimitrenko. Boytsov stays put.
MIDDLEWEIGHT
No. 7 Dmitry Pirog knocked out Gennady Martirosyan in 10 rounds Sunday in Russia. We thought about having Pirog switch places with No. 6 Sebastian Zbik and possibly No. 5 Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. but decided against it for two reasons. One, Martirosyan apparently is solid but nothing special. And, two, Zbik is coming off a controversial-decision loss to Chavez.
Pirog must defeat another big-name opponent ? he already stopped prospect Danny Jacobs — before we?ll be sold on him 100 percent.
