Earlier tonight Mexicali, Mexico, Jorge ?Travieso? Arce extracted a bit of revenge after defeating South Africa?s Simphiwe Nongqayi by way of 4th round TKO. Arce had dropped a unanimous decision to the former super flyweight champion a few years back but was able to even the tables tonight against Nongqayi, who also holds a victory over Arce?s brother Francisco.
Arce scored a knockdown in the first and was in control throughout, with the referee waiving the fight off as Nongqayi took punishment along the ropes later in round four. Arce now has a lot of momentum on his side, having scored one of the year?s bigger upsets back in May inside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas when he scored a come-from-behind 11th round TKO over former champion Wilfredo Vazquez.
The reigning WBO super bantamweight champion, Arce will likely be eyeing either a rematch with Vazquez or a big showdown with Nonito Donaire come 2012.
