Lopez stops Ibarra in 8

In an exciting night of boxing at the Plaza de Toros in Juriquilla, Queretaro, Mexico, 4,000 fans enjoyed every fight from the opening bell at an event presented by Promociones del Pueblo. In the main event, WBC #2 rated Mexican star Oscar ?Ceviche? Ibarra (27-5, 18 KOs) was stopped by WBC #1 ranked Filipino Sylvester Lopez (17-3-1, 13 KOs) in their WBC silver super flyweight title/world title eliminator. Lopez started the fight strong and was up 39-37 on the cards of the three WBC judges after four rounds. After that, the fight the fight tightened up until Lopez caught Ibarra on the ropes and punished him until referee Gerald Ritter stopped the bout at 1:23 of round eight.

At the time of the stoppage, judges Rey Danseco (Philippines) and Julie Lederman (USA) had the fight 67-66 for Lopez and David Candido (Mexico) had it 67-66 for Ibarra.

With the win, Lopez earned the opportunity to be the mandatory challenger for reigning world champion Suriyan Sor Rungvisai of Thailand.

In other action on the ?Mexico vs. Philippines? card, Mexican WBC #3 super featherweight Dante ?Crazy? Jardon (19-1, 17 KOs) scored a seventh round KO over Filipino Ricky Sismundo (28-6, 8 KOs) in a clash for Jardon?s WBC Youth title. Time was 3:03.

Also Mexican super flyweight Edgar ?Power? Jimenez (14-5-1, 10 KOs) compiled a ten round unanimous decision over Filipino veteran Juanito Rubillar (48-18-7, 23 KOs) by scores of 99-90, 98-91 and 98-92.

In other bouts, unbeaten featherweight Andres Gutierrez (19-0-1, 16 KOs) TKO?d Carlos Guzman (10-5-1, 4 KOs) at 2:21 of round nine.

In a four-rounder, featherweight Nesly Maldonado took a majority four-round decision over Malena Mu?oz by scores of 39-37, 40-36 and 38-38.

During the event, the World Boxing Council acknowledged the efforts and dedication of Promociones del Pueblo for Ibarra-Lopez fight as well as the distinguished Torres-Landa family for their support of professional boxing.
