MANILA, Philippines ? It seems Manny Pacquiao has already selected the next performer who will sing the ?Lupang Hinirang? at a future match: Fil-Am ?American Idol? Season 10 finalist Thia Megia.
In a report on abs-cbnnews.com on Sept. 19, Megia was quoted to have said, ?It was amazing. I got to sing the national anthem for him last night [Saturday]. He told me that I will be singing in his next fight.?
However, the same report did not clarify which match Megia was referring to, with many surmising it would be the one after the Marquez bout.
This report comes weeks after Fil-Canadian YouTube sensation-turned-recording star Maria Aragon has been confirmed to sing at Pacquiao?s upcoming third match against Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico on Nov. 12.
A separate report on Yahoo! OMG on Aug. 26 quoted Aragon?s manager Jeng Guiyab as saying, ?Manny himself confirmed the news to us.? More, Bombo Radyo reported on Sept. 6 that Aragon already has obtained the National Historical institute’s approval for her planned rendition of the “Lupang Hinirang” at said fight.
Megia is currently in the country with other ?AI? finalists Casey Abrams, Haley Reinhart, Jacob Lusk, James Durbin, Lauren Alaina, Naima Adedapo, Paul McDonald, Pia Toscano, Stefano Langone and winner Scotty McCreery for the ?American Idol Season 10 Live Tour 2011? to be held on Sept. 20 and 21 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
