History in Las Vegas as Erik Morales defeats Pablo Cesar Cano

Moments ago inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, living legend Erik ?El Terrible? Morales became the first Mexican fighter to win a full title in a fourth weight class when he defeated a very courageous Pablo Cesar Cano by way of 10th round TKO. It was a hard fight from the beginning and one Morales had to dig down for.

In the opening rounds Cano gave the 34-year old Morales some trouble with his in and out movement and was connecting at a nice rate. Morales began to adapt from the fourth round on and starting landing crisp shots after becoming more aggressive.

Cano?s face was beginning to look like a bloody mask as the rounds wore on and Morales landed with a wicked barrage that made matters worse in the tenth. Referee Kenny Bayless called a halt to the action to determine if Cano?s face was too severe for him to continue but the fight was allowed on.

It wasn?t until the contest was in between rounds that Bayless waived the fight off. With the win Morales captures the vacant WBC junior welterweight belt, having previously held titles at 122, 126, and 130 pounds.
