There is more to the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Victor Ortiz WBC welterweight title fight Saturday evening on HBO Pay-Per-View from Las Vegas. Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions have made this a mega promotion with Canelo and Box Latino Promotions that includes two cities and three world title fights. Closed circuit theatres and the ability for fans to see Mayweather and Ortiz also on a big screen in Los Angeles, for the Canelo Alvarez-Alfonso Gomez WBC super welterweight title fight have become rare.
?This is Mexican Independence Day weekend and everyone will be fighting their hearts out,? explained Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. Erik Morales and Pablo Cesar Cano will also be in the ring before Mayweather and Ortiz, at the MGM Grand in Vegas, for the vacant WBC Super Lightweight title.
The promotion has been fed with interest about Mayweather and his return to the ring after a 16-month hiatus and of course the first title defense for Ortiz, the youngster who has overcome adversity. However, De La Hoya, who deals mainly with a Latino market of fighters had the right concept here, because slowly but surely the sport has become dominated by the Latino fighter and caters to the fans of Latino descent.
