In Dong Secuya?s case, rather than rush headlong into what could probably be a costly, protracted legal battle, the genius behind www.philboxing.com and mannypacquiao.ph more popularly known as Pacland, opted to give up the original domain after threats from one Timothy Sladeck, who apparently wields some authority from the Pacman himself to ?consolidate his branding and presence? on the Internet .
A grave injustice, you say? Read on as today?s featured Last Rounder is none other than Mr. Secuya himself.
What was the impetus behind creating philboxing.com and Pacland?
The impetus of course was Manny Pacquiao. The reason the website was created is now part of the Pacland lore when I created it in August of 2003 primarily to make a home for a few ragtag and vocal Filipino boxing fans who were then supporting Pacquiao who was scheduled to fight Marco Antonio Barrera.
In 2005, I created Philboxing.com as a full-pledge Internet boxing publication to cover the Philippine boxing scene and all Filipino boxers.
During its infancy and up until this present issue came up did Pacquiao ever communicate to you personally his intentions towards the mannypacquiao.ph website?
Never. But on many occasions since I first met him in 2005 he did show his gratitude to me because of the work I’ve done, including giving me his own laptop. Pacquiao did approach me last May when I visited his Los Angeles apartment where he introduced me to Timothy James Sladeck and asked me if I can help Sladeck who was building his official site. During that meeting, Sladeck only asked me to link the original content of his website at Philboxing and Pacland, which I immediately did.
