Penalosa and Suico take Mexicans on Pacquiao card

Former World Boxing Council super-flyweight champ Gerry Penalosa and WBC No. 10 lightweight Randy “Komong Bato” Suico will face two tough Mexicans on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Larios battle on July 2 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The southpaw Penalosa (49-5-2, 33 KO’s), according to reliable sources, is set to defend his World Boxing Foundation super-flyweight title against WBO Latino superfly boss Gerson Guerrero, who hails from Mexico City.

The 28-year-old Guerrero (31-6, 23 KO’s), nicknamed ‘El Nene’ due to his boyish looks, will be the third foe being considered for Penalosa after Alexander Munoz and Tomas Rojas whose names were previously floated.

Penalosa had won the WBF title on November, 2004, knocking out Thai Bangsaen Sithpraprom in the seventh round of a scheduled 12-rounder.

Suico, the dynamite-fisted brawler from Cebu, will take on Merida-native Silverio Ortiz, the 23-year-old banger nicknamed ‘Chamaco’.

Suico, however, is slated to vie for the vacant OPBF lightweight title on May 27 in Manila against Pongpetch Chuwatana, and a victory cements his place in the mammoth July 2 card.

To prepare for his two upcoming fights, Suico is set to fly to Japan on May 4 to avail of the services of more sparmates at the Teiken Gym of Japanese impresario Akihiko Honda.
