WBA/IBF light welterweight champion Amir Khan has hit back at the latest challenge issued to him by former opponent Breidis Prescott, who has been trying to secure a rematch with Khan since beating him in one round back at lightweight back in 2008.
“Prescott talking rubbish again…… or shall i say his manager/promoter talking sh*t for him, they all crying for a payday hahahahaa”
He later added:
“Thats all they want, u don’t see Prescott calling out Mitchell who beat him, I wonder how much hes getting paid to fight Mccloskey? Peanuts”
The taunts from Khan were likely in response to the latest in a long line of statements from Prescott, on this occasion in an interview with Boxingscene in which he said:
“You are a punk, your father is a punk and your whole team is full of punks. Especially your father, who babies you and that’s the reason you have grown into a real fag”

Prescott was apparently angry that Khan picked McCloskey to beat him, although this is far from the first time that Prescott has called out or insulted Khan.
Khan though, who since their first bout has gone on to become a major draw and two belt champion at 140lbs, has never seemed particularly keen on granting Prescott a rematch.
Undoubtedly part of that is down to the fact that Prescott has lost twice since then, and has only faced middling competition at best since the two losses.
Khan’s critics however claim that he is scared of being knocked out once again by the Colombian banger, despite having made big improvements to his defense since then and having taken punches from arguably a more dangerous fighter in Marcos Maidana.
Regardless of which is closer to the truth of the matter there isn’t any reason to assume that a fight against Prescott wouldn’t be a big seller for Khan, especially in the UK.
Before Prescott can think about taking on Khan again however, he first has to get past his September 10th opponent Paul McCloskey in a WBA light-welterweight title-eliminator, making the winner the mandatory challenger for Marcos Maidana’s ‘regular’ WBA light welterweight world title, Khan being the ‘super’ champion.
Of the McCloskey vs. Prescott fight Khan said:
“Honestly dont think Prescott will beat Mccloskey, Paul very awkward and tricky 2 catch, if he does our rematch will be alot sooner thn later”
Maidana was scheduled to face the consistently unlucky Robert Guerrero for the title, who was forced to pull out due to a severely injured shoulder. In the latest WBA rankings however he is listed as world champion without having fought for the belt.
Perhaps further confusing matters is the fact that Prescott and McCloskey are currently ranked only 6th and 7th respectively, and that Humberto Soto, who will certainly want a shot at the title also, is currently ranked at number one.
