BOXING is an individual sport but on Sept. 10, the Filipinos will try to win as a team against the Mexican invaders in ?Pinoy Pride 8 ? Philippines vs. Mexico? at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
Milan Melindo will lead Team Philippines as he takes on tough Mexican former world title challenger Francisco Rosas for the World Boxing Organization Inter-Continental flyweight crown.
?Milan is training really hard together with Team Philippines, (Jason) Pagara and (Genesis) Servania. The three of them know that they have to represent the country well against boxing powerhouse Mexico. It adds tremendous pressure because they know that they have to win as a team and not just individually,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu.
Pagara will face fellow prospect Rosbel Montoya, while unbeaten Servania will take on veteran Gerson Guerrero.
?He (Melindo) just has to use his smarts as he knows that Rosas is no pushover and has fought the best,? said the young Cebuano promoter.
Rosas is surely no easy target as he has fought some of the best–unbeaten World Boxing Association (WBA) light flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (twice), interim WBA flyweight titleholder Juan Carlos Revecon, and former world champions Edgar Sosa and Juan Jose Landaeta. He has also been in three world title fights and has a record of 22-8-2 with 13 knockouts.
?Typical Mexican, he likes to come in. It won?t be an easy fight for Milan.?
