We are now less than a month away from the Victor Ortiz/Floyd Mayweather fight, and aside from the mere two city press tour, things are already getting interesting and sub-plots are thickening.
There are a number of distractions that both fighters are going to have to endure even before they step in the ring to trade punches.
And things are only going to get more interesting.
The September 17 showdown, which will be brought to us via HBO pay-per-view, showcases the return of Mayweather, who was last seen in the ring in an one sided drubbing of veteran Shane Mosley on May 1, 2010, choosing upstart and WBC Welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, who was last seen in a Fight of The Year candidate in April against previously undefeated titlist Andre Berto.
Before the fight was signed, Mayweather had been jailed temporarily on domestic violence charges, which are still pending. After the dotted lines were signed, Mayweather failed to appear for a court ordered deposition regarding allegations of performance enhancing drug usage by Manny Pacquiao, and more recently, Mayweather was charged as part of a shoot-out occurring in his nativeLas Vegasat a skating rink.
Somewhere amidst all of these charges, Mayweather intends to focus on his first fight back in the ring in well over a year, and his trainer, former fighter Roger Mayweather, has a looming case around the time of the scheduled bout.
Is there anything else on the Mayweather plate?
