SHOWING its support to the Filipino boxing idol, the Philippine Sports Commission yesterday approved the request of Manny Pacquiao to train at the PSC-controlled Teacher’s Camp training facility in Baguio City.
Acting on the request of Pacquiao’s MP Promotions, the sports agency’s board agreed to let Pacquiao use the facility on June 1 to 26 in preparation for his July 2 fight against Mexican Oscar Larios at the Araneta Coliseum.
“Kumpleto na ‘yung facility natin doon, it’s for free,” said PSC executive director Atty. Guillermo Iroy Jr.
Iroy said that they already informed Manny Lopez, president of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) of the decision.
Iroy said that the pool of amateur boxers training in Baguio City in preparation for the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar on Dec. 1 to 15 will be transferred to the training facility at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Vito Cruz, Manila.
“For the meantime lang naman. We’ll give way for Pacquiao’s training kasi para naman din sa bayan ito. Basta para sa bayan laging handing tumulong ang PSC. Magandang inspirasyon din ito para sa mga boksingero natin,” added Iroy.
