THE TITLE showdown has yet to be officially sealed but reigning World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation featherweight titlist Juan Manuel Marquez has already started to belittle the credentials of Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao.
In an interview that came out in a Mexican paper Sunday, Marquez described the former IBF superbantam king as “lacking in merits” despite his conquest of Mexican featherweight great Marco Antonio Barrera last November.
Marquez, (42-2, 33 KOs) nicknamed “Dinamita,” is the frontrunning candidate to be Pacquiao’s May 22 opponent in an HBO card at a soon-to-be-determined venue in the United States.
The southpaw Pacquiao (38-2-1, 30 KOs) is currently in the US with business manager Rod Nazario to finalize the date of the bout and negotiate with HBO’s Kerry Davis and promoter Murad Muhammad for no less than a one-million-dollar payday against Marquez.
