Rising Mexican boxing star Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez has been criticized for the weakness of his fistic resume. Naysayers argue that while Alvarez is an exciting figure within the sport, his opposition has been weak.
Today a deal by Golden Boy Promotions, Alvarez?s promotional representation, clears the way for the young Mexican?s first true world class litmus test.

It was announced that Golden Boy Promotions purchased the promotional rights to Alfredo ?Perro? Angulo. The native of Mexicali, Mexico, has not seen the inside of a ring since July, 2010 due to a promotional squabble with Gary Shaw.
Back in June, after Alvarez disposed of Ryan Rhodes, I argued that Angulo would be the perfect test. Angulo is not a slick boxer, but has enough fire power to test Alvarez?s grit ? a necessary moment for any true world class fighter.
Angulo can only fight outside the United States at the present time due to immigration issues, but a fight against Alvarez in Mexico could be huge. ?Canelo? is a rising figure in the United States fight game, but a true mega-star in Mexico. Advertisement
It will be interesting to see if Golden Boy, and Don Chargin ? Hall of Fame Promoter in charge of matchmaking Alvarez?s career, will throw in their golden child against a tough cookie like Alvarez.
One thing is clear; there are no excuses as Angulo is cleared of any bureaucratic roadblocks.
