LAS VEGAS, Nevada — While most straight ?A? students are putting on their thinking caps, a straight ?A? student in Las Vegas is putting on his boxing gloves as he continues to shine in the junior boxing division.
Ten-year-old Jojit Butay Fillon has what it takes to be an achiever, even at such a young age, aside from being a consistent ?A? student and a math whiz.
In boxing, he has been competing and training hard for two years.
The medals, trophies, and boxing belts Jojit has won are his proud pieces of hard slogging in boxing.
?Boxing really makes me active most of the time practicing everyday,? said Jojit.
?He excels in both fields so I?m really happy for him. It?s something he likes so there?s nothing I can do but to support him,? said his mother Michelle Butay.
Jojit added another boxing belt to this treasured showcase cabinet at the Butay Fillon residence.
He defended his National Junior Golden Gloves belt via unanimous decision against Javon Lee of Washington in a 3-round junior division match held in Mesquite, Nevada.
?That was the same kid but then when the fight started, this kid got better and plus, pinaghandaan talaga niya ’cause he probably knew cause they?re in the same division,? said Michelle.
Jojit added that boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao is his motivation. After watching and studying Pacman?s previous bouts, he finds out that he too has a certain boxing talent.
Jojit is also the current Nevada state junior Olympic champ. He will continue training 5 times a week for his next bout in December.
