Op-Ed: Manny Pacquiao’s career shift from boxing to music looms

Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao could be preparing for a career shift from boxing to music with his soaring popularity as a singer after his version of Dan Hill’s “Sometimes When We Touch” placed No.7 in latest music charts. The fighting congressman from the Philippines is reaching the peak of his boxing career and he will soon retire after a few more fights. Boxing insiders predict the pound-for-pound king will retire from professional boxing in less than two years or before reaching age 34. Pacquiao, who will celebrate his 32nd birthday on December 17, is preparing for his third fight with Mexican counter-puncher Juan Manuel Marquez scheduled for November 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Earlier Pacquiao’s version of Dan Hill’s popular song “Sometimes When We Touch” almost made it to the top 10 list in the Secondary Adult Contemporary Chart. This week his version of the popular song hit No.7 in Chart. There is a great possibility it will climb even more in the coming days. Critics say Pacquiao isn’t really a good singer. There is nothing much special about his style or even his voice. But many Pacquiao boxing fans were surprised to hear his music climbing rapidly on the music charts.
