Oscar De La Hoya claims to have the formula to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The outlook of a fighter can change in a day?s notice and such is the current case with WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, who has gone from riding the high of his upset victory over Andre Berto last April to now playing the role of the huge underdog as he heads into his bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Ortiz faces off with Mayweather on September 17th inside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada and the latest odds have him pegged roughly as an 8-1 underdog.

Mayweather?s impeccable ability to time his foes and his incredible defense certainly make him a tough nut to crack but we would be foolish to believe that Ortiz doesn?t have his share of believers heading into the fight. One of them happens to be his promoter Oscar De La Hoya with Golden Boy Promotions, who himself lost a split-decision to Mayweather in May of 2007.

Oscar believes he has the key to defeating Floyd and mentioned recently on his personal Twitter account that he will be sharing the secret with the 24-year old Ortiz.

?Me and Castillo have been the closest in beating Mayweather. Believe me, I have the formula which I’m going to pass on to Victor,? De La Hoya stated, with your truly correcting a few or his grammatical errors.

The ?Castillo? that Oscar is referring to is former lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo, who pushed Mayweather to the limit in their April 2002 encounter. Castillo would end up losing a unanimous decision on that night but had great moments of success throughout the fight as he bullied Mayweather and pushed the tempo of the fight, convincing many he had done enough to win.
