Golden Boy promotions announced earlier today that Jorge Barrios, scheduled to take on Erik Morales for the WBC light welterweight title on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz in September, had pulled out of the fight.
Barrios was apparently forced to pull out due to visa issues, and was quickly replaced by hard hitting countryman Lucas Matthysse.
For Matthysse it seems like a refreshing good turn of fortune after a two questionable decisions went against him recently.
Many felt Matthysse did enough to get the decision against Zab Judah in Newark last year. Most felt he should have gotten the nod against Devon Alexander at the Family Arena, Saint Charles in June.
In both fights he seemed to inflict the most damage, knocking both opponents down. The judges though saw for the hometown fighters on both occasions, putting Judah on track to eventually gain the IBF title and Alexander seemingly on the way to a climb to welterweight.
