Seven blue collar boxing heroes

Fans don’t ask for much when it comes to the sport of boxing.

Give us a comfortable chair, a cold drink, and some honest action from fighters willing to give it all for the glory of victory.

Here are seven fighters who never disappoint and who always leave fans wanting more

Manny Pacquiao

In some circles, there is debate about the quality of Pacquiao’s recent opposition. But the fact of the matter is that the Filipino Phenom consistently puts forth an honest, exciting effort and always gives fans value for their pay per view dollars. With an opponent willing to battle, Pacquiao will always be there, willing to go to war.

Giovani Segura

The “Aztec Warrior” knows only one speed and lives to go to war. His two dominant stoppage wins over Ivan Calderon put him on the map, but his all-out style and no-nonsense attitude will keep him on the short list of fan-friendly fighters for a long while.

Carl Froch

When Froch first showed up on the boxing world’s radar, he had a lot to prove in one of the sport’s deepest divisions. England’s “Cobra” has won over boxing’s fickle fans and earned the respect of skeptical countrymen with nothing but quality efforts against some of the best in the stacked super middleweight division.

Jorge Arce

The words “Mexican” and “Warrior” have become synonyms among hardcore boxing fans and the career of Jorge “El Travieso” Arce fits right into the blood and guts stereotype regarding fighters from Mexico. Whether the favorite or the underdog, Arce never stops fighting and his opponent better be ready for war. Most recently, Arce stopped the heavily-favored Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. for a portion of the 122 lb. title.

Michael Katsidis

The battling lightweight from Australia never fails to deliver an honest, passionate effort. Not the most talented or skilled fighter, Katsidis remains on the short list of TV-friendly warriors who get the call for prime time battles whenever possible.

Tomasz Adamek

The Polish warrior is tough, sturdy, and stubbornly proud whenever he steps into the ring. Adamek has competed as a light heavyweight, cruiserweight, and heavyweight, but he approaches each battle with the same attitude and single-minded dedication to victory. His next bout will be against the massive and dominant Vitali Klitschko and few are doubting that he will, at the very least, put in an honest effort.

Orlando Salido

A true throwback fighter who has been battled-hardened on the tough Mexican club circuit, Salido has become one of the sport’s most under-appreciated warriors. With his surprise TKO 8 win over highly-regarded featherweight champ, Juan Manuel Lopez in April of this year, “Siri” is just starting to get the recognition he deserves after 15 hard years in the sport.

Paul Magno was a licensed official in the state of Michoacan, Mexico and a close follower of the sport for more than thirty years. His work can also be found on Fox Sports and The Boxing Tribune. In the past, Paul has done work for Inside Fights, The Queensberry Rules and Eastside Boxing.
