ALA Gym’s Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista has yet to know who he will fight in the undercard of the World Boxing Council super-featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera’s title defense against Rocky Juarez on May 20 at the Staples Center in Los Angles, California, USA.
Although some names have been floated, Bautista’s manager Antonio Lopez Aldeguer said nothing is final.
Boxing website Boxrec.com announced that Bautista’s opponent for the Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) card will be Mexican Hugo Dianzo, who holds a 31-11-1 win-loss-draw record with 15 KO wins.
“No, that’s not true. Bautista’s opponent is likely a Venezuelan. GBP gave the name to us for approval last week,” Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Aldeguer added that Dianzo’s name was not even considered by GBP as the next opponent of the reigning World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion Candijay, Bohol native.
“Probably, the manager of Dianzo gave his proposal to GBP to fight Bautista. Definitely that statement that Bautista will fight Dianzo is not from Golden Boy Promotions. We were told not to divulge who Bautista’s opponent will be until they have the contract signed,” said Aldeguer.
