– The Lara/Williams debacle sure made waves, didn?t it? I believe the boxing media deserve high praise up and down, from the HBO announcers of the fight, ESPN?s Teddy Atlas, to us keyboard tappers ? opinions were expressed and action was taken by the New Jersey Athletic State Control Board.
Say what you will about the sport as a whole, as it has many problems with the recent scoring travesty taking center stage at the time, but the writers who cover the sport do their job and tell it like it is most of/some of/partially of the time?
And did you hear Teddy Atlas? rant last Friday? He was borderline-screaming out his thoughts on the judging issue. Epic win.
This particular time, the media got it right.
– I?ve been tossing the Khan/Judah bout in my head for sometime, just as I believe all of us boxing followers are doing, and I keep going back and forth as to picking a winner. Hopefully, that?s an indicator of a good fight. Just beware, bettors, like I say all the time, Vegas knows?
– This weekend Pacquiao/Marquez III tickets go on sale, just a few weeks following the opening of ticket sales for Floyd Mayweather?s return bout against Victor Ortiz.
I recall in May the Pacquiao/Mosley tickets went on sale and within hours had sold 16,000 tickets and ended up selling out the MGM Grand.
I also recall being in an almost full MGM Grand last year for the Mosley/Mayweather fight, and haven?t heard anything about a sell out, or strong sales yet for Mayweather?s next fight this September.
It?ll be interesting to see the demand for Pacquiao tickets this Friday.
Insiders are thinking that the PPV buys for Mayweather?s next fight could reach up to two million. Question is whether he?ll fill up the MGM Grand Garden Arena that night.
If Pacquiao tickets disappear like they did in May, I believe it?ll be easy to see that while Mayweather may get the edge in PPV buys, the Pac Man is a better live draw.

– Just like everyone else, I?d like to see Pawel Wolak v. Delvin Rodriguez II, hopefully as an opener bout on an HBO or Showtime telecast.
– It?s pure businessman genius what we are seeing with Bob Arum of Top Rank and how he is utilizing HBO and Showtime against each other in order to get the best product for Pacquiao?s next fight. It?s taken a long time for Bob to pick one, but hey, what?s the rush when the fight is four months away?
Between both companies, the loser, well, they lose.
But to the victor go the spoils, the honor of showcasing the biggest name in the sport. We as fans also win as the winner will have to advertise on national television with the biggest promotional campaign they can muster to satisfy Bob, and Bob himself has big plans for open to the public press conferences from thePhilippines, toMexico,New YorkandL.A.
It?s going to be one heck of a finish to the 2011 schedule as we?ll be able to see both Mayweather and Pacquiao fight, (just not against each other, of course) Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., (just not against each other, of course) a grudge match for the ages between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto, Hopkins vs. Dawson, the finale of the Super Six between Andre Ward and Carl Froch, hopefully a returns of Nonito Donaire and Timothy Bradley, the Juanma Lopez and Orlando Salido rematch, and hopefully Brandon Rios and the winner of Maidana/Guerrero get it on. Let?s all keep our fingers crossed and our DVR?s on record, cause it?s gonna get busy, keep your lead hand up and watch for counters?
