Forum Boxing inks Marquez Bros!

Forum Boxing President, John Jackson in association with Jamie Quintana, President of Romanza Productions, inked a deal Friday, March 24, 2006 that resigned Juan Manuel Marquez (44-3-1, 33 KOs) and Rafael Marquez (31-3-0, 31 KOs) to a three-year promotional contract. Ignacio Beristain who has a long history with the fighters will remain their manager and trainer.

The contract will allow Forum Boxing and Romanza Productions to jointly take over the promotion of the fighters in the United States, Mexico and other international markets.

“This is a new beginning for Forum Boxing,” said John Jackson. “We’ve had a long lay-off. When Juan, Rafael and Ignacio phoned to talk about Forum Boxing promoting them, I got very excited. After working with them so many years at the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles, I knew their character. I also recognize that they’re both very talented fighters.”

Jamie Quintana and Ignacio Beristain share that opinion and are looking forward to building a strong relationship with Forum Boxing.

“We are all looking forward to working with Forum Boxing,” said Jamie Quintana. “Juan and Rafael spent a great deal of their careers with them. This is like a homecoming for all of us. Ignacio and I want to put together some great fights. Forum Boxing a long time ago created a market for the lower weight classes and Mexican fighters. We are interested in continuing that tradition.”

In the past, Forum Boxing was instrumental in giving many fighters the opportunity to earn the money and notoriety needed to be successful in the United States. The majority, with the exception of a few were Mexican National and Latin American boxers such as; Marco Antonio Barrera, Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez, Genero Hernandez, Jorge Paez, Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson, Manuel Madina, and Agapito Sanchez. In 2006 they want to continue their legacy of bringing competitive fights to boxing fans.

“Forum Boxing will definitely continue to bring competitive fights to the fans,” said President, John Jackson. “Our V.P. of Boxing Operations, Tony Curtis and our staff are working on some exciting things for the coming year.
