MANILA, July 14 (PIA)– World boxing champion and Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao agreed to be part of the proposed ?Face of Convergence,? which identifieS him as the person who will help strengthen the three core poverty reduction programs of the Philippine government being led by the DSWD.
?Congressman Pacquiao symbolizes the Filipino?s struggle to rise above poverty which the three core poverty reduction programs seek to achieve,?DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman said in a news release posted on the agency?s website.
Pacquiao, fresh from a congressional break spent in Sarangani where he finds time to be with his constituents and find out their needs as well as how he can best support them, recently met with DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman. He agreed to use the community-driven development approach in managing their poverty reduction funds.
Community driven development approach is similar to the KALAHI-CIDSS strategy which enables beneficiaries to decide on what projects are best for them and their communities.
Pacquiao pledged to support Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino or the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program, Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan ? Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), as well as sustainable livelihood, supplementary feeding, and the establishment of day care centers.
He committed 70 percent funding for every anti-poverty project to be implemented in Sarangani Province.(DSWD/RJB/SDL-PIA NCR)
