CEBUANO boxing fans will surely be divided on July 30 as the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) is willing to sanction two huge boxing events on the same night.
Although there is still no approval from GAB on either boxing shows, the sports sanctioning body is keen on overseeing both events.
?Both haven?t submitted their official cards yet so we still haven?t approved them.
But we will supervise both events,? GAB Cebu OIC Celso Miranda told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday in a phone interview.
One event, ?Pinoy Pride 7?Battle at Mactan,? is promoted by ALA Promotions at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City. It will be headlined by AJ Banal?s World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific bantamweight title defense against Canada?s Tyson Cave.
The other is a title bout between World Boxing Organization Youth flyweight champion Gabriel Pumar and Cebuano Froilan Saludar at the Cebu Coliseum, which is promoted by SGG Promotions.
?The venues are far apart but the boxing aficionados will surely be divided,? said Miranda.
Despite the clash between two boxing events, ALA Promotions will still proceed with its event because of its commitment with its sponsors and media partner ABS-CBN and because of the magnitude of the event.
?It has to happen within the date,? said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer.
?Hopefully (both events will) not happen at the same time. It would either be good or bad for the promotions. Both have different markets but they may affect each other.
But looking at it, the aspect of two different cities, I don?t see anything that should be a problem.?
Aldeguer said that ALA Promotions vice-president Dennis Ca?ete and SGG Promotions head Sammy Gello-ani have talked about this issue in Mexico. Aldeguer is waiting for Ca?ete?s feedback about the discussion.
