For Australia?s most prominent fight promoter, the 4-time Victorian Promoter of the Year Peter Maniatis, he could not go wrong with power-punching light flyweight Randy Petalcurin (13-1, 12 KOs). The General Santos City native was part of an event co-promoted by the Australian promoter last June 11th, 2011.
Petalcurin racked his 8th straight win since losing against Filipino prospect Marlon Tapales in the undercard of Brian Viloria-Carlos Tamara championship fight last year at the Cuneta Astrodome. Petalcurin kayoed Yodchinchai Sithkonnapha in the first canto and in the process, secured the vacant WBC Asia Council Continental light flyweight title. The win over Sithkonnapha was also Petalcurin?s 7th straight win by stoppage.
?I am very pleased with his (Petalcurin) performance,? said a very elated Maniatis. ? I am ready to set him up for big fights in the future.?
?I am now in communication with Petalcurin?s manager, Jim Claude Manangquil, with regards to the boy?s future.?
Maniatis told this writer that he will be visiting the Philippines by the middle of July and will look forward to finding more fighters who he can build up. For the meantime, Maniatis will have his hands full as he gears up for a boxing events he is now promoting in his home country.
?I am flat out busy as I have an upcoming event on July 8th at the Malvern Town Hall in Melbourne,? Maniatis told this writer.Peter Maniatis Promotions is headlining the Bob Rose Cup, an annual boxing event in Australia. Figuring in the fight will be Eddie Delic against Jordan Gee-Hoy. Delic once lost to Filipino journeyman Dondon Sultan.
