Gerry Pe?alosa says Dodie Boy Jr. is future world champion

HAVING reached the pinnacle of the sport, brothers Dodie Boy and Gerry Pe?alosa know what it would take to be a world boxing champion.

And both think another Pe?alosa, Dodie Boy Jr., can become one.

?I wouldn?t be here and waste my time if I don?t see any future in him. I see him as a future world champion so let?s support him,? said the retired boxer-turned-promoter Gerry of his nephew in the press conference of ?Dugong Kampeon? at the Sports Exchange Bar and Grill yesterday. ?It?s a waste of talent if we won?t support him.?

Gerry, one of the best boxers that the Philippines has ever produced, is the promoter of Dodie Boy Jr.?s fight this Saturday at the Cebu Coliseum. The unbeaten Dodie Boy Jr. (4-0, 4 KOs) is having his first eight-round bout against Jeoffrey Jimenez (5-8-2, 3 KOs) in the main event.

Having the surname Pe?alosa is a pressure for the younger Dodie Boy because of the accomplishment of his father and uncle. However, he isn?t burdened much by it because of their unwavering support.

?I?m pressured a little but I don?t put it in my mind because they always give their support,? said Dodie Boy Jr. ?I won?t promise anything. I?ll just give the people a great fight.?

Despite Dodie Boy Jr.?s conservative prediction of his upcoming fight, his father, who is also his trainer, is confident that the fight will end the same way as his son?s last four fights?by knockout.

?This will be a great fight I think it will end by knockout,? said Dodie Boy Sr.Also in the undercard is undefeated knockout artist Marvin Mabait (8-0, 7 KOs), who is taking on veteran Aljun Salogaol (11-15-2, 5 KOs).

There will also be three other professional bouts and two amateur fights. The boxing event starts at 6 p.p.

Tickets are pegged at P200 for ringside seats and P100 for lower box seats, the general admission is free to the public, courtesy of Rep. Manny Pacquiao.
