MARK Jason Melligen is up against one of the toughest opponents in his young career as he faces former world title challenger Freddy Hernandez on July 1 in Texas.
?It will be the fight that would dictate what the future holds for Mark. I believe that he still needs more fights against top caliber opponents to bring out the best in him before a world title shot,? said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer.
The 25-year-old Melligen has been training intensely under Tony Martin in Las Vegas for his most challenging fight to date.
?He?s doing well as he knows it is an important fight as it would be a TV fight,? said Aldeguer.
Hernandez has an impressive slate of 29-2 with 20 knockouts and holds victories over the likes of durable Jesus Soto-Karass and former world champions Demarcus Corley and Mike Anchondo. He is off from a first-round knockout loss in his world title fight with Andre Berto. His other loss was against former world champion Golden Johnson.
A win over a boxer of Hernandez?s caliber would be a boost to Melligen?s resume.
