After Ricardo Juarez, Marco Antonio Barrera wants to fight Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao to avenge his loss on Nov. 15, 2003 in San Antonio, Texas.
Eric Gomez, the vice president and matchmaker of Golden Boy Promotions Inc., said Pacquiao will stake his World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation super-featherweight belt against Pacquiao.
Gomez said the Mexican legend, who suffered the worst defeat in his career after an 11th-round technical knockout loss to Pacquiao, badly wants a rematch against the Filipino puncher.
Reserved day
“We already made reservations for Nov. 4 at the MGM Grand and we have HBO to show the fight,” said Gomez. “All Pacquiao would do is to say yes and we will make this match happen.”
Barrera will defend his title against Juarez on May 20, while Pacquiao is also expected to fight in June.
Pacquiao was supposed to fight Oscar Larios, who is also under promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions, but the deal was canceled without any reasons given.
“We have already agreed for Pacquiao to fight Larios but yesterday I got a call that the Pacquiao-Larios fight is off. No reasons given. So I said okay,” Gomez said.
Definite day
Golden Boy Promotions is also interested in signing up Pacquiao into its fold.
“Since Sheley (Finkel) told us that Pacquiao ditched Gary Shaw and he is a free agent for now, Golden Boy Promotions is very much willing to have him,” Gomez said.
“We made it November because we will give each boxer a chance to do their training. That is a definite day, Nov. 4. But if the rematch will not happen, we will put another explosive match for that date,” said Gomez.
