THE cards are on the table, what matters now is, which fighter can back his words and take home the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) superflyweight title.
Both Cebuano Z “The Dream” Gorres and Thai fighter Waengpetch Chuwatana are ready for the big night for the vacant OPBF super-flyweight title tomorrow at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Easy opponent
Gorres is hungry to win his first title, which will be the first for the ALA Gym, while Waengpetch is eager to get back the belt he lost by a split decision to Masayuki Arinaga in April of last year.
“What I saw in his fight video, I could say that he is an easy opponent. I can’t predict on what round I could take him down but if given the opportunity, I would take him down,” said Gorres.
“Gorres is not easy to knock out but I will work hard on his body to wear him out and then take him down,” said Waengpetch through his interpreter Pinit Pradsayab, who will also sit down as one of the officials of the fight.
If Gorres loses this fight, he could just put his dream of becoming a world champion aside, while a loss for the 32-year-old Waengpetch might prod him to retire.
Aside from Pinit, who was the referee of the Edito Villamor vs. Ratanaphol Sor Voraphin IBF minimum weight title fight in 1995, Cebuano ring judge Salven Lagumbay is the other scorer, while Bruce McTavish is the scoring referee.
Other interesting matches also feature two of the 20-year-old Thai fighting Bankluaygym triplets against the ALA Boys.
The heavier Decho Bankluaygym will fight 20-year-old Boholano and WBO Asia-Pacific Super-Featherweight champion Czar Amonsot for a 10-round non-title fight while the lighter Dechapol Bankluaygym will fight 18-year-old AJ Banal for six rounds.
