Casual talk via HOLLYWOOD, California – What a stupid choice by Juan Manuel Marquez ! Marquez against Likar Ramos? Their bout – a ten-rounder non-title fight – is scheduled to transpire on July 16, 2011 in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Sure, this would be Marquez’s tune-up, to prepare against Pacquiao on November 12.
But, this does not really make sense at all!
After having accomplished so much at age 38, Marquez has chosen, indeed, to take the more traveled road by cowards, intending not to face either David Diaz or Eric Morales, or against any competitive fighters.
Now, what does he have to prove to the boxing circle over this relatively unknown Ramos (24-3-1), who ranks No.4 in Columbia and No. 70 in the world?
Yes, Ramos did have stunning performances in his last three fights. And Marquez even said that Ramos is a great fighter who has shown 60.67 knockout percentage of his professional fights.
But, look at the records of his last three opponents whom he knocked out: Julio Cesar Perez (2-9-0); Julio Gomez (3-5-0); and Franklin Arroyo (6-9-0).
Another, the last defeat of Ramos was against Jorge Solis who knocked him out in round 7. As known, this is the same Solis whom Manny Pacquiao knocked out in 2007 in round 8. And recently Yuriorkis Gamboa brutally knocked him out in round 4.
Why can’t Marquez just use Ramos instead as his sparring partner?
Yes, Marquez is indeed playing safe. But, why fool the boxing public?
Ah huevo!
