Jose,
I just want to know since Chris John win over JMM. Do you think that if ever Chris John will Fight Pacman. Who will win?
veilside23
Veilside23,
I think the Dragon Chris John is a very good fighter and perhaps he will give Pacman fits, but in the end, Pacman will win.
Jose,
How will you compare Freddie Roach as a trainer against the trainer of Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera and JM Marquez? Also where I can find the autobiography of Freddie Roach? Thank you.
Homer
Homer,
Freddie Roach has proven to be a great trainer. It is hard to compare trainers because what works for one fighter, does not necessarily mean it will work for another. That being said I think Freddie Roach has proven that he can work with and make any fighter better. As far as his autobiography, I have not heard or seen one of him yet, but I will assume that with his success as a trainer it should be out shortly.
Jose,
Who do you think is the best junior lightweight today? Is it pacman? or barrera? but remember that Barrera was beaten by the pacman..
bems
Bems,
If you had asked me this question a couple of years ago I would have gone with Barrera, but he will have to avenge his loss to Pacman to solidify his reign. Right now the hot commodity is Pacquiao.
Jose,
If the two fight 132lbs E.Morales will go little bit higher even for a fine for every excess just to be comfortable in his weight..just to beat Pacquiao…Is this possible this will be the strategy of the Morales Camp in Pacquiao vs Morales III?
Bobot
Wow Bobot do you know something I don’t know of yet? What you are pretty much saying is that Morales is going to do to Pacquiao what Jose Luis Castillo did to Diego Corrales. Your question is if this is Morales strategy? Heck I do not know, but I can’t blame him for trying. I tell you what it will be his best chance of winning.
Jose,
What is your opinion if Brian Viloria and Jorge Arce fight who do you think will win?
jan Mendoza
Jan,
When this fight happens it is going to be a very good and exciting fight. Right now Arce is too strong for Viloria, but Viloria is getting better and better and seems to be moving up quick. Let’s let Viloria dominate all of the junior flyweights first before he steps up to meet a renegade like Arce.
Jose,
Manny Pacquiao seems invincible after beating Morales. what should larios do to beat the pacman?
Guerra
Guerra,
After Larios lost his WBC super bantamweight title to Isreal Vasquez by third round TKO he needs to reassure himself that he can overcome that kind of defeat, but I am not sure stepping in with Manny is the right choice for him. Larios will need to fight a very busy fight and have the power to stop Manny in his tracks. Basically Larios has to fight a perfect fight to beat Pacquiao. One mistake and the fight will end early for Larios.
Jose,
Is Barrera-Suico fight in the works? what is your opinion about this bout?
Gan
Gan,
I have not heard anything yet about this fight being made, but they are both Golden Boy Promotions fighters so this match up looks like it is going to be made down the road.
Jose,
You forgot to include Marvelous Marvin Hagler on Sugar Ray Leonard’s list of victims but I’m not sure if SRL was still in his prime when the said fight occurred I was such a big fan of both fighters when i was very young. i think they can beat even the great fighters today as what they have done in their time. Why do you think the Hagler one suddenly gave up boxing? Who do you think are the fighters today comparable with these two great champions?
salacgam
Salacgam,
Yes, you are correct I didn’t mention Hagler because even though Leonard won that fight by a very close decision Leonard was not in his prime when he and Hagler fought each other. Matter of fact neither fighter were in their prime when that fight took place. Hagler retired at a perfect time in his career. He made a lot of money and he will go down as one of the greatest middleweights in boxing history. Who would I compare these great champions to today? I would say Bernard Hopkins has to be mentioned in comparison to Hagler. I am not saying he is as good as Hagler, but he is the about as close as anyone to Hagler. As far as Leonard, I would say Floyd Mayweather because he has all the tools even to surpass a fighter like Leonard.
Jose,
Who was tougher, Kip Digs or Willy Wise? I know you beat one and lost to one. Also if you could fight any fighter in the last 50 years who would you like to fight at the DCU in front of your hometown crowd? What would the outcome be? And if you lost, or won, how?
Thanks Steven Shapiro
Steven,
I am going to go with Willy Wise. He was tougher in a sense that he was smart enough to box, box and box and stay out of harms way and eventually get the split decision. Who would I like to fight in my hometown crowd in the last 50 years? Wow what an interesting question. I am going to go with one of the fighters I admired growing up and inspired me, Marvelous Marvin Hagler. I would see the fight like the one he had with John “The Beast” Mugabi. It would have been an all out war, but in the end I lose by decision.
Jose,
As a boxer, I want to ask your opinion about the importance of a mouthguard for a boxer. Does a mouthguard have anything to do with the outcome of a fight? What type do you use. Is it one of those “boil and bite” or was it custom made for you by a sports dentist?
Lemuel
Lemuel,
A mouth piece is very important for a serious boxer. I just recently saw a friend of mine lose the Golden Gloves finals to advance to the New England Golden Gloves because of his mouth piece. He lost because of the mouth piece rule, which is if the mouth piece falls out three times the fighter gets disqualified. It was very upsetting because my friend was winning hands down. So in a sense, yes, a mouth piece can have an effect on whether you win or lose. I recommend for boxers who want to take this sport seriously to get a custom made mouth piece by a dentist. That is what I use and that is what all the top fighters use. Good luck Lemuel.
Charles,
In your analysis, who do you think has the advantage between Pacman Vs Barrera and Pacman vs Alex Arthur from England?
Jan Mendoza
Jan, I think Pacman, has the advantage. He’s already got a KO victory over Barrera, so mentally, the advantage speaks for itself. Physically however, we all know, Barrera will show up, that’s definite. How the previous outcome actually affects Barrera, we’ll see.
I haven’t seen Arthur in action yet, so I can’t make a judgment call on that one. Sorry.
Charles,
If pacman beats Morales again and then Barrera, does pacman have a chance to be the best fighter in the world pound for pound?
bems
I’m not exactly sure. It would seem as though he would, but hey, this is boxing and you know how politically incorrect, boxing can be. No matter, Pacman, is a fighter I like to watch.
First of all I want to say that Charles, you were a great fighter, one of the most exciting fighters of the last 10 years and respect to you for what you put into your career over the years, the dedication in the gym and the dedication and heart when fighting. You were robbed against Sven Ottke and also in the great fight with Antwun Echols. Nobody will remember your last 2 fights and not only because they weren’t televised in America, but because you were past your best. Also, what a great fight you and Calzaghe had, a couple of years earlier and you would have had too much for him. You had amazing skills, heart and workrate, I also loved your fights with Scott Pemberton, Etienne Whitaker and Herol The bomber Graham. I am 20 from England and would like to ask you first, who would win in your opinion out of Calzaghe and Kessler? Also, do you wish you could of fought Lacy as it would have been a fight of the year? And finally, what do you plan on doing now that you have retired? Thanks for reading my letter and for answering my questions, good luck in your future, I hope you are financially secure and god bless.
Kareem Abdul-Hakim Rahman
First of all, I would like to say thank you. I always prepared my absolute best for each and every bout. You know, the Graham fight, was one of my toughest. I had sustained an ankle injury in the third round as a result of a straight left that placed me on the canvas.
I have never seen Kessler in action; I’ve met him while in Denmark last year. I have heard that he has a good defense and isn’t a bad puncher. I don’t know, without seeing Kessler in action, it would be hard for me to judge. It would however, be good for calzaghe, to be truly challenged once again. A bout against Lacy, even 2 years ago, would have been a no contest. I would shut him out. Interesting question, I have recently thought so much, about returning to the sweet science but I’m wise enough to know, that if it isn’t there mentally, then physically, it makes no sense. Of course, you are aware that I’m writing for RSR. It’s a lot of fun for me. I’m trying to get into commentating, and I may, get into, becoming a trainer. Aside from boxing related issues, I’m still very much into the computer technical field. Once again, Thanks
Charles,
Is Oscar Larrios capable of beating Manny Pacquiao?
BONG
Bong, I have to apologize on this one. I haven’t seen Larrios, rumble. With that said, keep in mind, boxing is a sport, where one punch, can determine the outcome of any bout!
Kudos to the champs! Charles: Why do you think we have less exciting bouts coming from the heavy weight. I believe that the only reason why the lower weight divisions are suddenly being noticed, is because we don’t have any exciting boxers to watch out for in the heavy weight division.
Jo Jo
Well Jo-Jo, I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one. I personally, give respect to all weight classes. Sure, the heavyweights have always been, the crem de la crem, but I have seen, exciting bouts from bantam weights, up to the heavyweights. The heavyweight division, isn’t where it may have been a few years ago, and some of the world champions, well that’s a whole different story. Anyway, I think the division will bounce back within the next two years or so.
Charles,
Who do you think is the greatest fighter to ever come out of Philly and why do you pick that fighter?
Dino Capriti
Don, good question. I have never given much thought about that. In order for me to answer that truthfully, I’d have to research Philly fighters of the past and present, which, I’m sorry, but I haven’t done. I’d have to compare their accomplishments of their time, with the accomplishments of modern day, fighters. And then compile a list. A single Philly, fighter, that, is impossible!!
Charles,
How can I work for a bomb site like this? I love everything and want to be a boxing writer like you. What do I have to do to be on Ringside Report?
JB Jackson (Flint, Michigan in the house.)
Well, JB, you will need to have completed at least, 10 years of pugilism. No, I’m just joking, The name is Brad Berkwitt, he’s the owner of the website. If I were you, I’d send him a email with a bio of yourself, indicate to him, that you’re an avid boxing fan, you love the website and you would like to become a member of our team. If all else fails, inform Brad that you willing to challenge me to a ten round fight. Winner, take all!
Hi Charles,
Did I see you fight Pemberton in a replay of a fight that took place at the Mohegan Sun a few years back? Your experience and skills came through. What do you think of Emanuel Augustus, Sam Soliman, and Kassim Ouma as fighters? I know you are retired, but if you could fight one last big fight, who would it be against?
Judy
Yes, Judy that was I, going at it, against Pemberton in a replay from the Mohegan Sun. I’ve seen Augustus fight. I think he’s a pretty crafty fighter. However, I don’t think he will ever become a world champion. I haven’t seen Soliman fight yet, so I can’t give an opinion of him yet. Ouma, that’s my boy. I like his style and I think he will be world champion again. One last big fight, Bernard Hopkins, at the Wachovia center, in Philly.
Charles,
When Erik Morales lost, Erik’s camp made a lot of excuses. Do you believe boxing needs hard training and game plan? Do you think the first TKO of erik is enough to say Manny is better than Erik since they both won a fight a piece?
Ogieva
No, boxing is a one-to-one sport. In this business, only the strong survive. Erik is a professional, and has been for years. In reference to Manny and Eric, not necessarily, it would all depends on how the first fight affected him mentally.
“Hatchet”
Having fought Joe Calazaghe, were you surprised that he destroyed Lacy like he did? Did his speed affect you when he won in your fight? Do you think he can now be called the best Super Middleweight in the history of this division? If not, then who do you think is?
Bruce
I’m not sure if he’s the best ever. But I’ll give him his props, he deserves it. However, he needs to cross the Atlantic and come to America for my seal of approval. His style versus Lacy, was just what I said it was going to be. Speed and being a lefty defined the fight for Joe. Joe’s speed, wasn’t a major factor in our fight, it was just that I fought the wrong fight on that evening. I was taken by surprise, as to the way Joe came out in the first round. It set the pace and tone for the fight. For me, anyway. Although he got the victory, neither corner was satisfied, with the style that either of us fought.
Charles,
What are the possible downsides of Manny Pacquiao being an unorthodox fighter?and what other elements in his style as a fighter he should at least try to improve at to win against MAB and EM?
Mark
Mark the downside to him being unorthodox, fighting a fighter, who’s very capable and skillful, of fighting a lefty. Defense. That’s it. For me, at least. Other than that, proceed as usual.
