WBC Super Middleweight champ Carl Froch could not sound or look more confident heading into the Super Six semifinal against Glen Johnson this Saturday night in Atlantic City. The man known as ?The Cobra? from Nottingham, England, with the tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, talked some boxing with us?
BoxingInsider: Can Glen beat you?
Carl Froch: ?It?s boxing. You can?t say it?s impossible. Because that would be very pig-headed and arrogant? But yeah, it?s impossible for him to beat me.?
BoxingInsider: Do you feel pressure at this stage of the tournament?
Carl Froch: ?The pressure is always the same whenever you fight. I need pressure. Pressure is pressure, regardless of what?s on the line. It doesn?t make any difference to me.?
BoxingInsider: Andre Ward is being hailed as the favorite to win the tournament. Your comments and observations of Ward?
Carl Froch: ?Ward?s a very good fighter but he?s got his flaws, he?s not mixed with anybody that can bang like me. He beat Mikkel Kessler but he got Mikkel Kessler coming off the big layoff. There were a lot of factors that affected that fight, the cuts above the eyes. I know what it?s like to fight with cuts, it?s quite difficult. As far I?m concerned, I beat Mikkel Kessler as well. It was a real top performance from myself when I fought Mikkel Kessler, I took a lot of confidence from that fight. Going into the Ward fight, I?d be confident I could do a job on him, get him out of there, I really do. He?s not really a puncher. I had a chat with Arthur Abraham after their fight, he told me that Ward?s punches were like getting hit with rice pudding. So if anybody can?t punch, they?re gonna struggle with me.?
BoxingInsider: What did you see in the eyes of Johnson at that staredown moments ago?
Carl Froch: ?I saw his cornea, iris, pupils, the whites of his eyes [smiles].?
BoxingInsider: Still believe Mayweather will beat Pacquiao ?
Carl Froch: ?I?m not sure. It?s one of those fights that will probably never happen. Because we?re getting sick of talking about it, I?m getting sick of listening about it. But I?d say Mayweather is a better fighter technically than Pacquiao. It?s hard to pick a winner. If Mayweather were to ever fight Pacquiao it would be a good one.?
BoxingInsider: You still support Mayweather despite the general opinion that he is afraid to fight Pacquiao?
Carl Froch: ?Yeah. It?s jive talk, cheap talk saying he?s afraid. You can?t say Mayweather is afraid, he?s fought the best of the best.?
