Juan Manuel Marquez faced the unbeaten WBA Featherweight Champion, Chris John, 37-0-1, 20 KO’s, and amazingly lost. JMM is primarily known for his war with the very popular Manny Pacquiao, where he got off of the canvas three times to fight to a draw. A rematch with “The Pacman” never materialized mainly because Marquez didn’t really want it. There were easier opponents out there and Chris John seemed to fit the bill. It didn’t turn out that way as John controlled the action in route to a unanimous decision victory by scores of 116-110, 117-111, and 116-112. This is a huge blow to the career of Marquez, who now finds himself out of the Manny Pacquiao sweepstakes. The money is in a bout with “The Pacman” and the intrigue that was once there is gone.
