Even if the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez showdown appears to be almost a done deal, World Boxing Council superbantam champ and WBC Fighter of the Year Oscar “Chololo” Larios of Mexico still hopes to fight the Filipino ring hero within the year.
The Guadalajara, Mexico native Larios, who was recently voted co-Fighter of the Year by the WBC along with Roy Jones Jr, indicated that his immediate plan after his upcoming Japan stint is a fight with Pacquiao.
“After I take care of the Japanese, I’m going after Pacquiao next,” Larios said, also hinting at avenging the defeat of compatriot Marco Antonio Barrera at the hands of the Filipino hero.
Larios (50-3-1, 35 KO’s) is scheduled to defend his WBC 122-lb title for the sixth time against Shigeru Nakazato in a grudge rematch on March 6 in Tokyo, Japan.
