Flyweight hopeful Randy Petalcurin continues his quest for a rise in the world rankings when he goes up against Thai boxer Veeradej Manopkarnchang for the vacant World Boxing Council Asian light flyweight title at the Lagao Gym on June 11.
Rated No. 42 in the light flyweight class by boxing website www.boxrec.com, Petalcurin is fresh from a second round demolition of winless Juanito Tumugsok of Zamboanga del Norte.
He is ranked 6th in the Philippines.
Petalcuirin has won by knockout all but one of his last seven fights after dropping a technical knockout loss, his first and only defeat, against Marlon Tapales who recently made his US debut by winning versus Alejandro Solorio.
Randy has a record of 12 wins against a single defeat. Eleven of his wins were by abbreviated victories.
He hopes to make another good impression versus Manopkarnchang to improve his world ranking.
In the co-main event, Fernando Lumacad resumes his comeback trail against Ricky Sabia.
Lumacad, now a stable mate of Petalcurin, lost by knockout in the third round to newly crowned World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight champion Jorge Arce in June 2009.
Since bouncing from the Arce defeat, Lumacad racked up three victories, a draw and another loss (to Juan Jose Montes of Mexico).
Lumacad is slated to fight in Canada and the Sabia bout will serve as his tune-up fight.
Lumacad and Petalcurin are managed and promoted by John Ray Mananquil and Dexter ?Wangyu? Tan of SANMAN Promotion.
Meanwhile former world title challenger Balweg Bangoyan will face Elmer Legaria in one of the undercards of the June 11 SANMAN offering billed as Triple Threat.
