How is the most feard man in boxing feeling today?
SM- [laughing] most feard man, man it sure feels that way. I?m doing just fine. Thank you for asking.
Paul Williams once held the title as the most feard man in boxing, but it seems that once you smashed Williams especially in the manner in which you did. It then made you the most feard man in boxing. Would you agree with that statement?
SM- Well I must say that right now, it feels as if when I knocked out Williams that it gave me that most feard man title as well. Maybe that knockout punch that I landed on Williams scared them away.
Let?s get into some real talk, ok so the MegaFight that can not seem to get off the ground is Pacquiao/Mayweather. Rumor has it that Marquez has agreed to face Pacquiao at a catch weight fight for November, if that is to be true, that would then leave Mayweather and yourself without a dance partner. So why not pair up with Mayweather and get the show on the road? How much does a Mayweather fight interest you?
SM- Wow, of course it would interest me! Floyd is a fighter who I have always seen and see as being the smartest fighter fighting today. Floyd is a very intelligent fighter. Great skills. I would love to get it on with Floyd so we can all see who really is the best pound for pound fighter in the world.
On many pound for pound rankings out there, you have Pacquiao#1, Mayweather#2, yourself at #3, Donaire at #4, and Marquez at #5. Now if Pacquiao does end up facing Marquez again, and if Pacquiao is to defeat Marquez like I feel he will. Say that Mayweather and yourself then do end up fighting, I feel that Pacquiao facing the winner of Mayweather/Martinez would then add a whole lot of sizzle and excitement to the sport and will make for a colossal event. Your thoughts?
SM- You are very right my friend. Just imagine how big that would be for the sport. Pacquiao against Marquez and Floyd Mayweather against myself..Wow..I also agree with you that Pacquiao will beat Marquez if they are to fight. Especially if the fight takes place at 140 pounds or higher. I respect Marquez a great deal for the fighter that he is, but Pacquiao will beat him. Marquez can not carry his weight up to 140 or higher as good as Pacquiao.
I recently saw a video on fighthype.com where Floyd pulled out his outfit and shoes that he already had ready for the Pacquiao fight because Floyd thought that the fight was going to get made. Pacquiao has mentioned that he would love to fight Floyd but for whatever reason, the fight is not getting made. Many fans feel that both ego?s are getting in the way of the fight getting made. It seems to be a tale of one side not wanting to give in to the other. At the end of the day, it?s going to take for one of the fighters desire to fight the other fighter to be bigger than the ego they carry. All this back and forth soap opera seems to be cheating out the fans, Do you feel that the fight has lost a lot of steam?
SM- It really has lost a lot of steam, but you know something, I honestly feel that it?s a fight that will never happen between Mayweather and Pacquiao. People can go on and say that too much money is on the table for this fight not to happen, but the egos that you mentioned may have killed this fight all together. I haven?t seen the video of Floyd yet, but if Floyd already has his outfit and shoes ready then that tells me that he is ready to fight, I?m also ready to fight right now so it shouldn?t be a problem at all for Floyd and I to get together and make a real fight. One for the ages.
I recently saw that you were in line to face the winner of Chavez/Zbik, please do not take this the wrong way, but I feel that you facing the winner of that fight does absolutely nothing to your elevating status. Same can be said about the potential Pacquiao/Marquez 3 fight, nothing good can come out of Pacquiao destroying Marquez especially at a weight that Marquez will not be comfortable fighting at. So would you say that Mayweather agreeing to fight you would trump any of Pacquiao?s recent ring accomplishments?
SM- Yes, by Floyd simply agreeing to fight me, it would place Mayweather in a very high place. Pacquiao has been on a great run, but I strongly feel that if Mayweather and I fight, a new pound for pound king will be crowned. Simply because Mayweather will be looked as taking the bigger risk. Like I said, Marquez is a great fighter but he is at his truly best fighting between 130-135 pounds. That is why I think that the winner between Mayweather and myself will be looked as being the real #1 pound for pound fighter.
If Mayweather is reading this, tell him in your own words why a Mayweather/Martinez fight needs to happen? Tell him why you feel this is the biggest fight that can be made.
SM- All I can say is that if Floyd decides to fight me, we can really give all the fans a real good fight. Floyd and I will be in there testing each other skill for skill. I also feel that a Pacquiao/Mayweather fight may look great on paper but in the ring it will make for an ok, average fight. Like I said before, Floyd is too intelligent and will use angles to box Pacquiao from a safe distance and Floyd will go on to win on points. Pacquiao is a great fighter but Floyd is just sharper. A match between Floyd and myself will be an exciting high speed chess match. Floyd is a slick fighter, and very smart fighter but he will be up for it against me. I have no doubt that he will bring the very best Floyd Mayweather Jr. to the ring and I will also be at my very best. On top of all that, it is a fight that is very easy to make, no need to wait and wait for it. The best should always want to test themselves against the best. That is the only way to really find out who really is the very best.
