Many boxing fans say Julio Cesar Chavez Junior has benefited from his father’s legacy by getting media attention, though he might not deserve it, if only judged on skill and merit.
Chavez’s father, Julio Cesar Chavez Senior is the most beloved fighter in the history of Mexico and will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this year.
On Saturday June 4, Chavez Junior will enter a boxing ring in the Staples Center trying to make a name for himself, for his own accomplishments, against Sebastian Zbik. Not only will Chavez Junior face an undefeated fighter holding the World Boxing Council’s middleweight championship, the event will be broadcast on America’s premiere boxing broadcaster H.B.O.

“We are a few days from the fight and I am very motivated going into the biggest fight of my life,” said Chavez Junior from the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, where he trains with boxing’s most famous trainer Freddie Roach.
Chavez Senior has joined his son during the training camp and will be honored for his memorable career during the June 4th fight card at Staples Center.
“It motivates me a lot that my father is with me during training, that he is giving me advice,” said Chavez Junior. “It is something that I need, but I am very happy working with Freddie as well.”
If Chavez Junior is to become a true star in the sport, his performance against Zbik must be the memorable event on June 4, not the celebration being presented to honor his father’s career.
