Wanted: New Pacquiao foe

IF Plan A fails, go to Plan B, boxing promoter Wakee Salud said yesterday.

Faced with the prospects of Mexican Oscar Larios pulling out of a 10-round bout with Manny Pacquiao in June or July, Salud revealed that there are other opponents to choose from.

“We can still get someone who can give Manny trouble,” Salud said during an interview from his headquarters in Cebu. “We won’t bring in somebody who’ll go down easily. We want some body who can really fight, not a patsy.”

Salud reacted to reports that came out from Mexican media out La Opinion that says Larios is 99 percent sure of backing out of the Pacquiao bout tentatively set in late-June or early-July.

“We could even get Javier Jauregui,” said Salud, who has been tapped by Pacquiao to take charge of all boxing matters even though TV network ABS-CBN is promoting the show.

Jauregui is known by Filipino fight fans as the Mexican mover who toyed with hard-hitting Cebuano Randy Suico last year.

Larios’s agent Rafael Mendoza told La Opinion that HBO, which originally expressed its desire to beam the fight to the US from the Philippines, has decided to back out of plans to come over to the country because of the political situation.
