Brian is Vigan adopted son

VIGAN CITY– Hawaii-based world boxing champ Brian Viloria who is also known as “Hawaiian Punch” and recently “Pinoy Punch” has been lauded as a proud son of Vigan.

The Vigan city government formally presented to Viloria yesterday a resolution declaring the WBC lightflyweight champion as an adopted son of Vigan.

Viloria who was accompanied by his father Benjamin and Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson received a hand-crafted native plaque bearing the city council resolution during a program organized by Vigan Mayor Ferdinand Medina and Vice Mayor Francisco Rances Jr.

“For his achievements that make him worthy of emulation by Filipino youths especially the young people of Vigan, we hereby declare Brian Viloria as an adopted son of Vigan,” the resolution read.

The Ilocos Sur provincial board later conferred on Viloria another resolution lauding him for his successful defense of his crown agaisnt Jose Antonio Aguirre in Las Vegas last Feb. 18.

It is Viloria’s second homecoming in six months. Tracing his roots to Barangay San Jose in Narvacan town, the boxing hero also came home last September shortly after trouncing Eric Ortis and winning his crown in Los Angeles, California.
