MANILA, Philippines ? The welterweight title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada was attended by 16,412 spectators, generating more than $8.8 million in live gate receipts.
ESPN.com?s Dan Rafael said through Twitter that the Pacquiao-Mosley attendance is the 14th best boxing attendance in Nevada?s history.
?Pacquiao-Mosley’s $8,882,600 gate is 14th best in Nevada history, but is $3.485M more than #1 MMA [mixed martial arts] gate in Nevada history (Chuck Liddell-Tito Ortiz 2),? he said.
According to Rafael, the Top 3 gates in Nevada were Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Oscar de la Hoya, Lennox Lewis vs. Evander Holyfield, and Pacquiao vs. De la Hoya.
?Top 3 Nevada gates: Floyd-DLH (the all-time record anywhere at $18.419M), Lewis-Holyfield 2 ($16.860M) & Pacquiao-DLH ($14.380M),? said the ESPN.com resident boxing writer.
Pacquiao defeated Mosley by unanimous decision to retain his Word Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title in Las Vegas last Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
Pacquiao reportedly stands to get 80% of the live gate receipts.
Aside from the gate receipt earnings, Pacquiao will also get a minimum of $20 million in fight purse and pay-per-view (PPV) shares.
Boxing promoter Bob Arum earlier said the Pacquiao-Mosley PPV sales could reach at least 1.2 million buys.
Arum said the PPV buys in Pacquiao?s latest fight could match the estimated 1.2 million buys the Filipino generated during his match against Antonio Margarito last November.
