Last night inside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao successfully defended his crown with a dominant twelve-round decision that saw him drop ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley in the third round and dictate the tempo of the fight from there on out. Outside of suffering a knockdown in the tenth round, which later showed itself to be a push, Pacquiao was in complete control of the contest for nearly every second of every round.
On the undercard we saw prospect Jose Benavidez Jr. improve his record to 11-0 with 10 knockouts, Kelly Pavlik return from over a year absence, and an incredible victory by dogged veteran Jorge Arce, who mounted a comeback in stopping enigmatic Puerto Rican Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. Arce previously held belts at 112, 115, and 118 pounds and he certainly deserved the honor of the night’s standout performance.
