LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Pound-for-Pound king Manny Pacquiao earned a unanimous decision over
Sugar Shane Mosley after successfully defending his World Boxing Organization championship belt a few moments ago before the 16,412 in attendance at the MGM Grand Arena in their twelve rounds of boxing. Pacquiao’s performance is brilliant!
But, Pacquiao, who appeared disappointed after failing to knock out the Pomona native, may have been misunderstood having established the pattern of just garnering unanimous decisions from his last three fights, inclusive against Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito.
Pacquiao, 32, said Mosley still is a strong and dangerous fighter.
“I tried my best to knock him out but Mosley keeps running away from me and I think he’s respecting too much for me,” said Pacquiao. “But, he is still very strong and fast fighter.”
Freddie Raoch, Pacquiao’s long-time trainer, thought “Mosley was just trying to survive, hoping that he won’t get knocked out.”
“Mosley should seriously consider retirement. He can no longer take heavy punches; he runs aways when he feels them.” Roach added.
Pacquiao said: “I think he (Mosley) felt my power and that’s why he does not want to fight back.”
“I am happy that I won the fight but I am not satisfied at all because I am concerned about what the boxing fans want to see. They want to see a good fight. It’s not my fault. Mosley does not want to fight.” Pacquiao added.
Mosley, 39, who looks every bit of an aging fighter and is said to earn around $ 10 million from his fight against Pacquiao, has more words from Top Rank Godfather Robert “Bob” Arum.
“Pacquiao is a remarkably phenomenal fighter, and you must undestand that,” said Arum. “Mosley is not a done-deal fighter. No matter how good Pacquiao’s opponents are, they would still look bad because Pacquiao’s style, power and speed are unquestionably unmatchable.”
