Let’s compare this to other recent Pacquiao fights. In November, Bodog had Pacquiao at -450 to beat Antonio Margarito, so he’s roughly two times as heavy a favorite against Mosley than against Margarito.
The odds were similar, though, for Pacquiao’s fight last March against Joshua Clottey. Pacquiao was -800 for that one, with Clottey at +500. Pacquiao blew through Clottey, who mostly stood still over 12 rounds of “action” in the first-ever main event fight at Cowboys Stadium.
In November 2009 against Miguel Cotto, Pacquiao was about a -300 favorite against the Puerto Rican. His fight with Ricky Hatton (May 2009) saw Pacquiao favored between -240 and -300. The last time Manny was not the favorite was against Oscar de la Hoya in 2008. Manny was a +150 or so underdog by the time that fight actually happened, as the line steadily moved back toward even money after early lines had Oscar as a pretty sturdy favorite.
Last year against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mosley was a +250 underdog, while Mayweather was about a -350 favorite.
