MALACA?ANG welcomed Friday the announcement of Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao that he will be wearing yellow gloves during his fight against Sugar Shane Mosley on May 8.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said he himself would be wearing yellow on Sunday.
?Let us have a yellow Sunday,? Lacierda told reporters.
?If by wearing yellow means that he is donning the colors of the President and it?s a call for unity then it is a welcome gesture on the part of Congressman Pacquiao,? he added.
The Palace official wished the Saranggani congressman good luck on his upcoming fight at MGM grand in Las Vegas.
?We are confident with his (Pacquiao) boxing skills that he would prevail over Shane Mosley,? said Lacierda.
Pacquiao earlier said he will be wearing yellow gloves as a message of hope in fighting hunger in the Philippines.
Yellow was the color used by President Benigno Aquino III during his presidential campaign as well as color used by his late mother Corazon Aquino when she toppled dictator – the late Ferdinand Marcos.
Pacquiao ran for Congress under the ticket of Aquino?s closest rival, Senator Manny Villar. But he later expressed support for the Aquino administration. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
