LAS VEGAS ? At age 39, Sugar Shane Mosley may appear too old for boxing.
To those who care to listen, his trainer, Nazeem Richardson, reminded everybody that Mosley isn?t just an average fighter around.
In his own words, Mosley is a legend.
?You?re not talking about an ordinary guy. You?re talking about a special guy, a guy who is legend,? said Richardson of Mosley.
Training Mosley for the four straight fights, Richardson kept the three-time champion in shape when he inflicted Antonio Margarito a severe beating in winning the World Boxing Association (WBA) 147-pound title belt two years ago.
And while Mosley lost his last two outings opposite Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Sergio Mora, Richardson maintains the challenger remains in tip-top condition especially when he fights Pacquiao.
?You have to understand that as old as Michael Jordan might be now, he (Mosley) can beat us most of here one on one. He can still play the game and probably can still start out for a team there in the NBA,? added Mosley?s trainer.
A heavy underdog, Richardson vowed to give the reigning champion and top pound-for-pound fighter in the world a good fight.
?Sugar Shane Mosley doesn?t have to match Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao is a phenomenal athlete.?
But Mosley doesn?t have to match up because Mosley is bringing in his own set of weapons to the plate and Pacquiao will see weapons he haven?t seen of late,? he stressed.
