While rumors of a ring return from undefeated former five weight world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. have surfaced regularly since his victory over Shane Mosley last year, most have tended to be from unnamed sources said to be prominent members of his team.
Said anonymous sources tend to be rather scant on any solid details and since their names are never revealed it is never too clear just how much they really do know about Mayweather’s plans for the future.
Now however it finally seems that something tangible might be in the works.
In a recent interview with Examiner’s Chris Robinson, Roger Mayweather confirmed that his nephew will be returning to the ring later this year, and somewhat surprisingly that he will be fighting in the Cowboys stadium in Dallas instead of his usual home turf of Las Vegas.

What’s slightly unexpected about this news is that Mayweather hasn’t fought outside his adopted home of Las Vegas since 2005.
To agree to fight in Texas, changing the training and preparation schedule he has been used to since beating Sharmba Mitchell undoubtedly means that the offer he received from Jerry Jones must have been extremely lucrative.
Either that or Mayweather intends to outdo rival Manny Pacquiao by attempting to sell more tickets at the venue than Pacquiao did.

Of course while Floyd might like to take to the ring again soon, and have uncle Roger train him, both have legal matters to attend to that could make that problematic.
Roger has a court date set for August for allegedly attacking female boxer Melissa St Vil.
Never one to be outdone, Floyd Jr. has two court dates awaiting him, a misdemeanor case in September for an alleged poking perpetrated against a security guard and another in July for an altercation with a former girlfriend that carries several more serious charges.
So at this stage it isn’t clear how Mayweather will return to the ring, regardless of whatever deals he might have made with Jerry Jones or anyone else.
While it’s unlikely he will end up being incarcerated for any serious amount of time the same can’t necessarily be said of Roger Mayweather, and at the very least the legal process could prove time consuming.
