ALL BOXERS HAVE GUTS, SOME LESS THAN FORMIDABLE!
San Francisco, CA- Professional boxers, if they didn?t possess intestinal fortitude, the Latino?s might be bussing dishes, the Black guys washing cars, and the White guys, well you?d see them working at Walmart. Puns and racial stereotypes aside, today I will delve into the mentality of a professional fighter. Having been involved in the fight game since the days of Floyd Patterson?s heavyweight title reign, I have seen fighters with potential to have been great not attain that status due to their lack of stones. In days gone by, one might have thrown the aforementioned Floyd Patterson into the gutless category, this because his manager Cus D?Amato avoided Sonny Liston for years until pressure from both the media and fans forced Floyd to fight Sonny. After two fights and two first round knockout losses, Floyd?s gutty move in stepping up to the plate against Liston proved to be near fatal.
TODAY, TWO BOXERS LACK THAT BOTH INTESTINAL FORTITUDE!
In today?s world of professional boxing, two pugilists of note, television headliners both, come up a little short when it comes to the size of their stones. The first boxer we will use a pair of tweezers to grab him by the nads is Amir Khan.
The once beaten WBA jr. welterweight (140 lbs) titleholder Amir Khan had his clock cleaned in 2008 by a Colombian upstart named Breidis Prescott. A decisive underdog, Prescott was kicking the snot out of the English prodigy of Middle Eastern descent before knocking him out in less than one round. From that point forward, Amir Khan, AKA ?A Mere Con? to his detractors, has in recent years never talked in public about facing Prescott in a rematch. This, even though after the fight took place Khan and his team told the media they their number one priority was to fight the Colombian again.
I SAY BLAME THE BRITISH FIGHT FANS!
That lasted about two weeks. After that, Khan couldn?t spell B-r-e-i-d-i-s P-r-e-s-c-o-t-t, let alone have balls big enough to take the not-so super Colombian (24-2, 19 KOs) fighter on again. Not trying to rain on Prescott?s parade, but he is not the second coming of Mike Tyson. He is instead an above average fighter who on a scale of 1 to 10, I?d rate him about 7.9. That being the case, where should I rate Khan who has taken on a set of fighters who lack pop in their punches and who lack world class skills not worthy enough for me to write home about. As for the fans in the UK, they must all be so drunk come fight time that they are oblivious to the?Con? that Amir Khan is running past them. If this were the United States and not the United Kingdom, I?d have to say that Team Khan has perpetrated the biggest con on the American public since Robert Redford and Paul Newman in the movie The Sting, and that comes in second only to George Bush?s late buddy, ?Kenny Boy? Lay and the Enron energy fiasco.
PRESCOTT IGNORED BY KHAN AS IF HE HAD AIDS!
With Prescott winning this week and Khan (25-1, 17 KOs) besting a club fighter type in Paul McCloskey the week before, one would think that ?A Mere Con? would be looking to save face and remove that blemish on his professional boxing resume and at least call out Prescott?s name. Even if he had to read off a cue card held by promoter promoter Oscar De La Hoya, Khan, if wasn?t really a Con, would surely be mentioning Prescott after his recent run of dispatching ?only? punchless foes. But that is not the case, and if the hard up, sometimes drowning in alcohol British fight fans were not suffering from national amnesia, they might be sober enough to call ?A Mere Con? out and prod him with a stick to step up and face Breidis Prescott again. But, like Con, the UK fans, bullies that a lot of them are when they are drunk, are punks for the most part when they are not. Sad commentary about an entire nation of sports fans, but in case you need any reminder, I?ll bring up their hooligan like behavior at soccer games.
AUSSIE VIC HAS STONES SO SMALL YOU NEED A MICROSCOPE!
There is one man with stones so small that Dr.?s need a microscope capable of looking at the lunar surface from earth to examine his testicles. Of course, I?m taking about Vic Darchinyan, the Australian based fighter (36-3-1, 27 KOs) who is a disgrace to some of the outstanding Aussie fighters that preceded him like the great Jeff Fenech. Come July 7, that?s right July 7, 2007, it will be four years since Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KOs) exposed Darchinyan as a gutless wonder with a devastating one punch knockout that Vic cannot remember. In fact, if you remember in his post fight interview, Vic was in total denial then, telling the TV interviewer that he hadn?t been knocked out. This leads me to believe that Darchinyan has never watched a video replay of the fight and that deep down inside he thinks the Donaire fight was just a bad dream, instead of a real life nightmare. While A Mere Con has avoided losing since his being drilled by Prescott, Vic has twice lost to Joseph Agbeko (UD 12) in 2009 and to Abner Mares (SD 12) in 2010.
Donaire, Shaw, Darchinyan GARY ?B.S.? SHAW NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH GARY ?U.S.? BONDS
For those of you that don?t know, Gary ?U.S.?Bonds was a one hit musical wonder of the 1960?s. For those of that do know, Gary ?B.S.? Shaw is a boxing promoter with a belly so large he could hide Vic Darchinyan in it and sneak him through airport security. Shaw was quoted over the weekend that he would put Vic in with Superman if need be, but Nonito Donaire is not Superman, at least not yet, and I didn?t read about Shaw mentioning Nonito Donaire much, if at all before or after Darchinyan manhandled Yohnny Perez Saturday night on Showtime. To show you things have changed in Australian boxing politics, after the aforementioned Jeff Fenech was screwed royally out of a victory over Azumah Nelson in Las Vegas, they clamored and stomped their feet until Nelson would come to Australia and give robbery victim Fenech a rematch. Even though the results had Fenech losing to Nelson decisively, the Aussie?s were adamant that the fight take place and in Australia.
VIC WANTED MO MONEY, MO MONEY, GOT IT, & THEN REFUSED TO FIGHT DONAIRE
Some fan of the intestinally challenged Darchinyan had the nerve to write on a blog here at RingTalk.com that it was Donaire who backed out of a Darchinyan rematch. Nonito wanted the fight so bad that he was willing to take far less money that Darchinyan, a guy whom he had quite figuratively knocked the puck out. But the lame Aussie fight fans, their memory is either drenched in ale, didn?t know the full story, or only selectively read what they wanted to in Australian periodicals.
IT TAKE GUTS TO FIGHT, BUT IT TAKES HUGE STONES TO BE A MAN!
That being said, I think I?ve proved my case here in that A Mere Con lives up to the moniker and Vic Darchinyan is less than a man who is bull shitting his own people, and at the same time denying the world of the most desired match at 118 lbs. with he and World champion Nonito Donaire. Case closed!
