Manny Pacquiao Loves to Sing & how Frank Sinatra can get you Killed in the Philippines!

It takes a lot of balls for a boxer to sing in front of a crowd, let a lone put out a Music Cd / DVD. Boxing Icon Manny Pacquiao is set to release “Sometime When we Touch”. You can purchase it Get it Next Thursday, April 28, on iTunes and Amazon.com.

I use to not understand Pacquiao’s obsession with Singing until I learned that it is pretty much a National past time in the Philippines. Filipino people take singing really serious. Don’t believe me? Go down there yourself, go into one of many of the karaoke bars and belt out a bad version of Frank Sinatra’s “I did it My Way”. (That is if the song isn’t banned from their list).

In 2010, The New York Times printed a article by Norimitsu Onishi, entitled: “Sinatra Song Often Strikes Deadly Chord”. The article states: “Filipinos, who pride themselves on their singing, may have a lower tolerance for bad singers”. The article goes on to talk about how Sinatra’s song has started many fights and countless deaths in Filipino Karaoke Bars. The song has actual started its own urban legend and even banned in many Karaoke Bars across the Philippines.

Rodolfo Gregorio a Filipino who enjoys Karaoke, stated in the Article: ?I used to like ?My Way,? but after all the trouble, I stopped singing it,? he said. ?You can get killed.?

Ok, you know the Filipino people are passionate, and a few bad apples are found everywhere around the globe… but it really goes to show you how deep the Filipino people as a nation have it for singing.

I finally understand why Manny Pacquiao has a passion for Singing. Its part of the National Pride of such a great Nation. I am actually going to buy Pacquiao’s latest CD. Why not? You know it will be made with Filipino Pride and Passion! I just won’t sing any of his songs in a Filipino Karaoke Bar… I mean, after learning what some will do to you over Sinatra (an American Icon)… what would they do to you if you stepped on their National treasure, Pacquiao? Ouch.
