Ilocanos pray for Viloria

VIGAN CITY – Relatives of Brian Viloria here have asked all Ilocos Sur residents to pray for the fighter, who defended his World Boxing Council light flyweight title for the first time Saturday night against Mexico’s Jose Antonio Aguirre in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 25-year-old “Hawaiian Punch,” whose parents hail from nearby Narvacan town, sought to keep the WBC 108-pound division title against “El Jaguar” Aguirre in their fight at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino.

In an interview over DWRS Commando Radio on Vice Governor Deogracias Victor Savellano’s program on Saturday, Judge Victor Viloria, granduncle of the fighter, said his grandnephew’s fight is not only for the honor of their family but also for all Filipinos.

“The heart of Brian is closer to his Filipino countrymen than the Americans,” said Judge Viloria, a first-degree cousin of the boxer’s late grandfather.
