MANILA, Philippines ? Shane Mosley?s chances against Manny Pacquiao on May 7 borders from slim to none.
Freddie Roach told the online edition of The Ring magazine that while Mosley has a big punch and has tons of experience, the multi-awarded trainer believes Pacquiao will ?stop him in six, seven rounds.?
?I don?t see Shane having a chance,? said Roach, who spent three quality weeks with Pacquiao in Baguio City before moving back to the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood over the weekend.
Roach?s optimism stems from Pacquiao?s first sparring session ? a six-rounder ? on American soil last Tuesday against Karim Mayfield and Shawn Porter wherein ?Manny looked very good.?
Canadian Mike Koncz, who is Pacquiao’s consiglieri, said “Manny is about 60 percent prepared.”
Still, Roach said he doesn?t think Pacquiao will get the job done in the first few rounds owing to Mosley?s savvy.
?He knows how to survive.?
Asked by ace fight scribe Michael Rosenthal that Pacquiao might decide to carry the fight as an act of compassion, Roach said he has seen it many times in the past, the last against Antonio Margarito.
?He?s a compassionate person. He ends up liking his opponents as time goes on. He feels sorry for them, I urged him not to do that. He said it?s a sport, (and) that he should try not to kill anyone. I agree with that.?
But Roach said Mosley might get lucky and land a haymaker.
?You shouldn?t let those things happen,? warned Roach.
However, Mosley might not even get the opportunity to regain his bearings in time to launch a Hail Mary Shot.
?We?ll make the fight at a fast pace, our pace?(and) be the first to stop him, to show the world how much better we are than anyone else. That?s our goal,? said Roach.
